In this episode, you will learn:
• Why religious appearance is not the same as religious character
• The specific signs that a man is performing Islam, not practicing it

I've heard a lot of horror stories about these guys. They are like pillars of our Muslim community. They get married and then they end up divorced. Her stories come out about like he did this, this, this.
Sharif FaizullahLet's poke into that. Is that about his dean or is that about his character? Rank up that marriage that MBA divorce proof your future marriage today. Just because someone looks outwardly religious, it doesn't always mean that he's inwardly pious or has a good character. But I know men who pray five times a day, they have way longer beards, they wear like long soabes, but in their home, they are vile and disgusting in their treatment of their wives and children.
SPEAKER_01The facade that some men put on. When they're going out, they look like the most religious guy. You think, wow, he's leading all the salas, like he's doing Tarawi, he's dressed with the biggest beard. Like, is that Santa Claus? Like you don't even know. But when he goes home, he speaks to his wife, and you're just like, Are you sure that's the same person?
SPEAKER_02I think weaponizing Islam is where I have that issue. When people are like overly educated, but really they're just compensating, they're actually not that educated, and they're using whatever education they do have as a weapon, and they're like justifying all these crazy things or putting forth these ideas that are just completely taken out of context. You're just wanting to be a dictator or a tyrant with a Quran in your head.
Sharif FaizullahSo there are men who pretend to be Muslims because they grew up in a Muslim family. They don't even believe in Allah or life after death. And they hide their atheistic or agnostic beliefs because of friends, because of family pressure. Some of these men look for quote-unquote nice religious girls to marry. Guess why? Because they still want a healthy marriage and a stable family. I know women who fallen victim to such men, and just for the sake of their marriage and family, some of these women have slowly sacrificed their deen. Why does this matter? Because your husband is your Jannah or Jahannam. He has an unbelievable amount of influence on you and your future children's hereafter, Jannah or Jahannah. So please do not let a liar drag you down to hell.
SPEAKER_02I've heard a lot of horror stories, especially like being from Houston. We have a huge Muslim community. We have multiple masjids, and you hear stories about these guys that get married. They are like pillars of our Muslim community. They're very knowledgeable, very educated, they get married, and then they end up divorced. Her stories come out about like he did this, this, this, a thing that does not fall within Islamic belief whatsoever.
Sharif FaizullahLet's poke into that. Is that about his deen or is that about his character?
SPEAKER_02Well, those would definitely be character flaws.
Sharif FaizullahThat's the flaw. People think, oh, just because he's knowledgeable, because he's memorized the Quran, because he's such a scholar of Islam, oh great, but this is exactly why we put them separately. Deen and character, we don't put them together under one. You have to assess deen and character separately. Doesn't matter how knowledgeable the guy is. Even if he prays five times a day, even if he prays the Hajjut, well, you gotta look into his character.
SPEAKER_01I think when we're talking about the extreme where it's a guy who's outwardly religious, but on the inside he's not. Because if your understanding of Islam is just you need to pray, you need to fast, that's it, and you don't realize a big portion of our religion is about how you treat people.
SPEAKER_02Within gossiping, slandering, and gaslighting, would you include lying in that? Because I do think lying habitually is also a red flag. Does that be an umbrella term, or would you consider that a whole other thing?
